At Build-Her.Org, we’re focused on our mission to support women in construction and the trades, to be more visible, heard, and supported in the workplace.
The work itself isn’t by any means free just because the mission is meaningful. It takes time, expertise, relationships, and resources. It takes building programs, doing research, and building community that can keep going.
A nonprofit is not a business that forgot to make money or doesn’t need money to survive, it’s an organization built around a mission that still very much has needs like a business.
It still has bills, insurance, technology, outreach, and the time for the work it takes to keep the doors open and to do what we can to serve people well.
Donations, sponsorships, and community support aren’t handouts, (and they are by no means guaranteed or easy to consistently get - beleive me I’ve received several “no” and “we love your mission but we are unable to..”’s).
Private donations and sponsor contributions are ways people choose to invest in work that benefits others but they aren’t always freely given or available, there are budgets constraints and their own needs they’ve planned for and bigger organizations already getting their contributions.
There’s no shame in building a business. There’s no shame in building a nonprofit. They serve different purposes, and both take real work.
Nonprofit missions don’t run on good intentions alone. It runs and continues to run because people (very much including myself) decide the work matters and help make it possible.
A huge thank you to those who have believed in our mission and share this mission through donations or reposts it definitely means so much ❤️🫶

WHERE BROOKLYN AT? 🎶
We had this short NY birthday weekend planned for a while and could’ve pushed or cancelled our trip because of the storm that hit the east coast, or a wedding we would have loved to attend, we could’ve said we did enough for the day and skipped our rooftop bar reservation to rest, avoided walking in the rain and selecting the easiest option and missed out on an awesome little restaurant, or seeing and continuing to be inspired by women out there doing the work as I was walking by construction sites and roadwork (shout out to all the NY ladies)🫶
Ever since I was 17 and moved away from home out of my small town, I feel like I’ve spent years of consistently pushing past uncertainty… and trust me not all have been short lived or sunshine and rainbows… but there’s some comfort in knowing there’s always a way through the uncomfortable and unexpected…and there are several moments like this that remind me that we are all constantly having to make decisions in the moment and that collectively, over time, you can see where they’ve taken you and your next decision could change the direction.
I want to continue to encourage others to go beyond their comfort zone, maybe choose once in a while to do the opposite when avoiding difficult or inconvenient things and see where it takes you.

BUILD-HER.ORG IS ONE IN A MILLION
We are excited to be part of the @canva milestone of supporting 1 million nonprofits around the world! 🌎
As a nonprofit, tools like Canva help turn our mission into something people can see, share, and connect with.
Build-Her.Org is one tiny organization among a million, but we are proud to share this milestone with other nonprofits that canva supports who represent a mission, a community, and people working towards making an impact.

ENTERING YEAR 3
Build-Her.Org was founded on March 11, 2024, and Build-Her, Be Heard was published on August 19, 2024. Now, both are in their third year—and there is plenty to celebrate.
Since its release, the book has traveled to bookshelves, conferences, and group events across the United States, Canada, and Guam. What began as a journaling and reflection guide has become another way for women in construction and the skilled trades to reflect on their journeys, share their experiences, and make their voices heard.
Haven’t picked up a copy yet? Visit our website to learn more, and while you’re there, join the new Build-Her.Org Community.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support this mission by sharing your stories, contributing to our research, and helping advance advocacy for women throughout construction and the skilled trades.

DO YOU HAVE CLARITY?
When I share my story and the stories of other women, we often talk about the moment they realized this could become a career, what excites them about the work, and what keeps them moving through the tough days.
Purpose helps us push forward. Clarity helps us understand where we are going.
Listen in to another snippet from my conversation with @simplyamandasevers as she shares why clarity is such an important step.
What has helped you find clarity in your career?
